Furday Friday – Messages of Love

Our dogs are full of love.  So much, in fact, that they have decided to express it for you today:

Do these pictures remind you of Hallmark greeting cards or is that just me??

These are actually “magnetic poetry” that I bought one year at Party City for Valentine’s Day that I put all over the outside of Will’s car along with some sticky gel things for the windows that said “I love you” and “happy valentine’s day” and a bunch of hearts.  I did it Valentine morning while he was in the shower and then I ran inside and got back into bed so he never suspected a thing until he went outside and there was pink, red, and white stuff ALL OVER his car.  After we took all that down, We kept out some of the magnets and put them on the fridge.  They say “I Love You” and “Your My Favorite” because that is what we say to each other all the time.  It’s obvious that Guinness is still not cooperating when I put things on his head.  He especially didn’t like the magnets because all he wanted to do was lick them for some reason.  I only ended up with one viable shot with him, all the rest were Mia.

Will and I have a Halloween Party tonight, so hopefully I’ll get some good pictures there.  We’ll just have to wait until Monday to see!

Because She’s good with numbers…

We let her balance the checkbook:

Get it?? “Balance” the checkbook? ………………………. Anyone?

My future is so bright

Just one of the many things I have stuck on their heads and photographed this week as part of their payment to me.  Stay tuned for more later in the week.

Mundane Monday

It’s Monday again, so you know what that means – weekend recap!!

Will and I had another low key weekend.  Saturday, we went to one of our favorite places – a little hole in the wall Mexican joint that serves authentic, delicious Mexican food.  He had the enchilada plate and I had a chimichanga, and we ordered the guacamole and our bill only came to $18.74!!  It is a ton of food for a little bit of money.  That was our splurge this weekend.  Then we went grocery shopping as we do every weekend.  Oh yeah, we voted early, too!!

Sunday, we went all around town trying to find the few pieces that Will needed for his costume.  His office is dressing up on Friday and they are divided into teams.  His team’s theme is “Western”.  He’s going as a dead/ghost cowboy.  We finally found a cowboy hat and picked up some face makeup and white spray for his hair.

I’ll try to get some pictures, but I’m sure he won’t want me to.

Furday Friday #13

Welcome to Furday Friday!!  Today, you have a very serious duty ahead, to mediate the high profile case of Snarkygirl vs. Guinness the Bernese in case #u28j3901 “THE CASE OF THE APARTMENT SECURITY DEPOSIT”

Opening Statements, Snarkygirl, you may begin:

“As you all know, Will and I have been going through some financial distress recently and we are currently looking to relocate to a more cost-effective domicile.  When we moved into this apartment, we were careful to explain in excruciating detail to the animals what we called the “No Property Damage” clause in their lease with us.  We explained that they could live with us, free of charge, and we would provide them with food, water, treats, timed restroom breaks, exercise, “working” vacations, and all the love they could stand in exchange for unconditional love and they had to be my photography subjects 24/7.  According to the terms of their contract, Will and I would pay the PET FEE to the apartment complex on their behalf with the understanding that they were not to cause ANY physical damage to the apartment what-so-ever.  As you will clearly see by the documented evidence, they have broken that contract.  What we are asking for here is simple justice.”

Opening Statements, Guinness:

Moving On.  As you all may or may not know, Guinness has always been kind of a strange, yet lovable dog who manages to scuff up the walls, scratch up the furniture, and squeeze himself into the strangest spots to sleep.  So, I present to you, the jury (or readers, whatever), documented evidenceof how the apartment walls, coffee table, and couch trim have all become victims to this incredibly adorable dog and his vicious sleeping habits.

Exhibits A, B, and C:

Guinness sleeping as a puppy.  This is where the problems started:

In Exhibit D, you can see that, he has now decided to move his torment to the furniture as well as the walls:

And in Exhibit E, you can see that his behavior is starting to influence the other animals as well:

When will the torment end?!?!

So, in the pursuit of justice, I ask you, the jury to find the defendant GUILTY of being incredibly cute and destructive to property.  The Plaintiff, Snarkygirl, is asking for punitive damages for breaking their contract and the damage to the apartment and furniture in the amount of 50 milkbones.

You now have a very serious decision in front of you, and I ask that you don’t make that decision light-heartedly.  Please consider all sides of the case you heard here today and base your decision accordingly.  Remember, these are MILKBONES We’re talking about, not just any run of the mill dog treat.  Please give this case the consideration it deserves.  You may leave your judgments in the comments.

In other news, the cat has taken up residence under the new dog bowl:

I’ll give you a little peak

Ever wonder what I do during the day while I’m at “work”?? Well, let me show you!

I surf the internet and view pages upon pages of things that I cannot afford, but would LOVE to own.  I dream of the day when Will and I will own our own home and the things we will fill it with.  So far, I’ve bookmarked these things as a great place to start:

A new living room suite wouldn’t suck

We'd have to keep the animals off of them because they are white

We would have to keep the animals off of them b/c they are white

This whole set is only $800!!!! I love how 1960ish it is with the desk legs.

This whole set is only $800!!!! I love how 1960ish it is with the desk legs.

Of course I’d have to see the whole  set together before I made any final decision.  The couches come in other colors if need be.

I really want this bedroom suite (the nightstand is missing in the picture, but is included) it's less than $2,000!!

I really want this bedroom suite

I’m not really sure how I could make everything work together, but I’d LOVE to commission a breakfast table from this guy made from a vintage american truck hood.  I’d like to pair it with booths from this website.
I haven’t gotten around to a dining room set yet, but you get the idea.  Some other things that  I am loving right now:
I am loving these pillows from Crate and Barrel, but I would NEVER pay that much for a pillow.  I’d buy a cheap pillow from Target or somewhere and then cover it myself in similar fabrics.
These two center piece bowls are also from Crate and Barrel, but also not worth $100!!
These things from Red Envelope are fantastic:
Some Etsy Love:
Votive candle holders from MaryInk. (link found on mightyhaus)
A vintage camera by Domestikate:
Some lovely vases by tandemstudios:
Alright, enough sharing all of my favorite things with you.  Don’t buy it all before I get the chance, ok?
P.S.  Nothing I do seems to fix the spacing on this post.  What is up with that??

This just makes me sad

It’s no secret that everyone has a difference of opinion about politics and right now emotions are running high concerning the election, but THIS is just insanity.  Who do these people think they are?  Do they really think that a group of middle class white adults cannot be considered ‘terrorists’??  They consider it being “passionate” but I just see them as bullies trying to belittle anyone who doesn’t hold the same opinion they do.  I also feel like the only reason they have the courage to scream and yell these horrible things to other people is because they are in a GROUP and can remain somewhat anonymous.  It makes me grateful that my parents raised me to treat people with respect, even if we disagree.

It’s hard on days like today, but…

Today, I am grateful for my superior customer service that allows me to smile politely and answer people’s questions instead of stapling their hands to their faces in a permanent palmface while I am OBVIOUSLY eating my lunch and talking on my cell phone ON MY LUNCH HOUR and said people decide to STARE at me awkwardly instead of saying ‘excuse me’ or ‘I’m sorry, I see you’re eating your lunch, but…’

Gratitude – noun; the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful

Lately,  things in my personal life have been strained (in case you didn’t notice by my lack of blogging).  Will and I have been bickering a lot more, we have both been in  generally grumpy moods, and the stress of the day to day that we have been dealing with lately has really been putting a lot of strain on us.  Today, while perusing through the latest REAL SIMPLE magazine, I read a story on a group of women who decided to start keeping a ‘Gratitude Journal’ to help them remember the things they are grateful for on a day to day basis and I thought to myself “This is EXACTLY what I need in my life right now.”  It’s easy to lose perspective on the bigger picture when you’re struggling through keeping your sanity for another day.  So, here are the top things in my life that I am grateful for right now:

6.  A steady job that I can count onIn today’s economy, you can turn on the news, pick up a paper, or check any news website and see the list of companies that have laid people off by the thousands.  I recently had a conversation with my Mom (who I used to work for back in GA) and within the last month, they have laid off about 6 people and my Mom (the V.P) and her boss (the President) have both taken pay cuts to help keep the company afloat.  If Will and I had stayed there, I’d surely have just been laid off for the first time in my entire life – by my Mother.  The biggest silver lining to our move to FL has to be the fact that Will and I both have steady, reliable jobs in the health care industry where it is very unlikely that we will be laid off and that my Mom wasn’t put in a position to have to fire me.

5.  Weather I know this sounds like a weird thing to be thankful for, but today especially, the weather around here has been beautiful.  It’s been kinda cool (mid 70’s I’m guessing) with no humidity and a nice breeze.  It has been the closest thing to fall that I’ve seen yet.  Nothing beats putting down the windows and opening the sunroof in my car, putting on a great cd (The Postal Service was my first choice today) and cranking up the volume on my drive to and from work.

4.  MusicI love music.  Plain and simple.  One song can help change my mood and I’m always on the lookout for new music to listen to.  Will used to ALWAYS be the one in our relationship who was the music “scout”.  Now he doesn’t have time and it feels good to be able to suggest a new band to him and he’s actually never heard of them and LIKES them.  Lately, my music list has gotten a little stale, so feel free to email me any links to good bands at Denae63 {at} gmail {dot} com.

3.  My Blog  Even though I neglected it for about a week, I love the cathartic effect it has on my emotions and the awesome people that I have “met”.

2.  Speaking of cathartic effect – My Animals Even though they can be as (or more) needy as children, they ALWAYS love me, no matter what.  At the end of the day they are always waiting and willing to snuggle up with me and just hang out.

1.  Always on the top of my list – Will.  Even though we don’t always agree and we can sometimes take our frustrations out on one another, he is what balances me out.  When I’m freaked out about something, he calms me down and vice versa.  I am grateful that I have such an amazing man in my life.  A man who is willing to do whatever is necessary to take care of us (with little complaint) and still have enough energy at the end of the day to rub my back if I’m not feeling well, to slow down in between the small window between two jobs to really HUG and KISS me, to see silly things like a softball sign up and remember how I said I wanted to start playing again and grab a number for me, and to wake me up every morning with sweet kisses and cuddles (it’s not girly, I swear).  Of all the cathartic outlets in my life, I’m luckiest to have this one.  The one who ALWAYS listens with enthusiasm (even when I’m talking about BTVS), the one who takes his time with me and my crazy mood swings, and the one who always comes back to talk things out after we’ve been bickering.  Could a girl ask for more?

So, there you have it.  I’ll be adding random things that I feel grateful for from now on because I want to try and focus on that instead on the negative.  I feel like I’ve been such a cynic lately and that isn’t the person I want to be.  So, my challenge to you is to tell me ONE thing that you are grateful today or start your own “Gratitude Journal”.

Mundane Monday #2

See, I can keep my promises.

Will and I had a pretty low-key weekend.  We didn’t do too much, just kind of hung around and watched TiVo, went grocery shopping, etc.  We did splurge a little and saw Max Payne, and let me be the first to tell you to keep your money.  It really wasn’t that great.  In fact, it was kind of boring.  I have been really slipping with my blogging and photography this past week, but I haven’t bought my medication yet (bad me, I know) and I’ve been extra tired and unmotivated.  It’s also not helping that the weather here has been BLAH.  Cloudy most days, although nice and breezy and a little cool, but still just BLAH.  I miss the weather in GA where we had defined seasons and it actually got cold.  I didn’t realize how much I liked cold weather until all I had was warm.  Weird, huh?  I guess it’s a ‘grass is greener’ kind of thing.

I’d like to share with you one of my favorite songs right now.  It’s Al Green and Corrine Bailey Rae. It’s a beautiful song, check it out:
