Mundane Monday

A new weekly photography title that I can forget to do!!

Anyhow, this past weekend was pretty mundane for me.  It was pretty much just sleeping in, aggravating Will until he went to SB, laundry, dishes, attempting to brush the cats, and watching Buffy DVDS (for like 6 hours at a  time) until he came home.  I did manage to get in a little photography, though.  I don’t know why, but I haven’t been particularly motivated lately.

In a house with 2 cats and 2 dogs, we have TONS of animal toys littered about that I pick up AT LEAST 4 times a day. Once Guinness realizes that they are no longer on the floor but in the toy box, he feels COMPELLED to drag them all out, one by one.  Again.  We repeat this all day long like he is a toddler. Well, that is until I get frustrated and say “NO! Leave it ALONE!” and he hangs his tail and ears and skulks away.  And does it again when I’m not looking.  Before I stacked them, he used to get all the toys out of the cats toy box, too.  Which is even more annoying because there is really nothing like the sensation of stepping on a wet, cat-nip filled mouse.  Gross.  I’ve never had this problem with Mia getting the toys out of the cats toy box, but if they left one on the floor, she had to eat it.  It was like a compulsion.  She would even find them under the bed, under the desk, behind a door, anywhere and everywhere except the toy box. She would wriggle under, between, and stretch out her little spotted tongue to get that mouse and then she would destroy it.  And eat the catnip.  And then throw up on my carpet.  Several times.  So, when we got Guinness and he started pulling out hundreds of mice out of the box and leaving them scattered all over the floor like some creepy mouse battlefield,  I just stacked the toy boxes and the cats can stick their little paws into the sides and pull out a mouse if they want, but the dogs cannot.  Saturday, I found this in the spare bedroom when I went in there to open the window and decided it was super cute and I wanted to photograph it:

And then wouldn’t you know that Sammy saw me with his mouse and decided that since I didn’t ASK if I could play with it, he was going to take it away from me:

And thus ended my photo shoot.

Furday Friday #11

I am going to start out this post by saying SHAME ON ALL YOU!! I know that people are reading my blog because I can SEE on my dashboard that you are clicking on your GOOGLE READERS each time I post.  Only TWO little comments on my birthday?  I don’t know if I should be hurt or angry.  Or both.

Just kidding!! I appreciate the comments I received from Nik and Christina, two awesome ladies whose blogs I love.  The rest of you can delurk yourselves when you’re ready, I’m just glad you’re visiting!!  I know I promised to tell you about my best birthday experience, but it just isn’t the same without the photos, and I cannot for the life of me, find them anywhere.  I’ll give you the highlights, but trust me when I say the pictures are priceless.

My best birthday EVER was the year I turned FIVE (1985)!! My brother was about 9 months old at the time and my parents were throwing me a Strawberry Shortcake (again, mid-eighties here people.) themed party.  I even had a red dress for the occasion and all my family and friends were coming.  Well, my Mom, being the time-saving super mom she is bathed my brother and I together and he decided that it was the perfect time to poop.  In the water.  With me in it.  Yeah, gross, right?  So me being the five year old birthday girl/drama queen start squealing and jump out of the bath and get water everywhere and run around like a crazy child.  My mom cleans everything up and starts over, succeeding this time to get two children clean.  Then we go set up the party, Strawberry Shortcake plates, napkins, cake, etc.  (My mom is a champ, for real)

My awesome birthday present from my parents was a Cabbage Patch Doll!!! I was so freakin’ proud of this doll that in an awesome picture you may never get to see, Heather (a friend of mine) and I were posing these awesome model/Charlie’s Angel poses with our cabbage patch dolls with her little brother Brian doing an MC Hammer-esque crossed arms rap pose.  We all look so serious, it’s hilarious.

Anyhow, what made it my best birthday ever was all the trouble my parents went through to set it all up and they gave me the coolest things.  Unfortunately, my parents are quick learners and once they realized how much trouble it was having huge birthday parties, we didn’t do that again.  Most of my other birthdays were spent at Six Flags or the Fair because that meant less cleanup!!

On to Furday Friday!! This week I will once again show some guest babies – My Mom’s dogs, Samson and Missy.  Enjoy!

First up is Missy.  If you remember, she is the Pom that my mom rescued from a puppy mill.  She is so cute and has that tongue that hangs out all the time.

This picture is of me holding her right after my mom got her.  Mom had taken her to the vets office and had her groomed and had her health checked out.  She was overweight and has a heart murmur, but she’s in good hands.  I don’t know why it’s blurry or why my Mom picked this one to send me, but whatever:

Samson is my mom’s baby.  Seriously.  She has had him since 1997/98, I think.  She bought him from a really nice breeder as a puppy and he’s been around ever since.

He needs to be brushed in this one, but he’s so cute it doesn’t really matter.

And of course, no Furday Friday would be complete without pictures of my babies:

Mia, in her favorite spot:

Sammy with his favorite blanket:

Guinness still looking terrified but nailing his new trick and doing a little product placement:

And finally, a photo manipulation of Olivia:

The best blog you’re not reading

Like many people, I was introduced to this blog when he was the featured reader of the day on Popcandy, an honor he and I have in common.  So, go see what you’re missing.  I promise you won’t regret it.

It’s not too late, right?

I know I missed another Furday Friday, but please bear with me.  I’ve really not been feeling to well lately.  My Crohn’s has been acting up a lot and I’ve been very tired.  Tuesday isn’t too late, right?

Over the weekend, Will and I met Laurie and her dog Daisy at the beach to introduce our dogs.  We love setting up play dates with other dogs and Will met Laurie at SB where she brings Daisy almost nightly.  Daisy is an incredibly sweet dog that will rub up against your legs like a cat does starting with her nose and rubbing all along her face and side.  She is also incredibly camera shy, so after torturing her for a few shots, I put my camera away so that she would play.  Here are the few shots I did manage to get:

If she saw me with my camera, she would drop the toy and run over to hide behind Laurie’s legs.

This is Laurie and Daisy walking back to where they set their towels and stuff down.  I love this picture and I’m hoping Laurie does too.  She said she doesn’t have many pictures of Daisy because cameras scare her.

It’s My Birthday!!

Yes, it’s true.  I am officially older today than yesterday!  So, in honor of my birthday, I’d like for everyone to delurk themselves and leave a comment about your favorite birthday memory.  I’ll be sharing mine tomorrow!  If you’re already a regular commenter, then still tell me your favorite birthday memory because I’d love to hear it!!

Compatibility

For those of you who don’t know me personally (or IRL as the blogging community writes it)  then i have a (somewhat) interesting story for you today!!  It is the story of how Will and I came to be a couple.

Will and I met circa 1997ish.  I was working as a shift manager at the local Schlotzsky’s Deli when a friend of Will’s recommended him for a job there.  The first day that Will started, he was left to ME to show around and “train”.  His first interaction with me he SWEARS that I was cursing Winn (the creepy, inappropriate, watching-p0rn-on-the-office-computer, black-albino manager) because he always had me do everything while he went and “pulled his pork” in the office.  Will was apparently terrified, but also slightly intrigued by me.  While the next few interactions between us are nothing to write home about and because I don’t really remember them, I’ll skip ahead a few weeks/months/whatever to a random Friday night when I REALLY wanted to go see Urban Legend (don’t judge me) and none of my friends wanted to go, but I didn’t have a license at that point (another post for another day) and I apparently hijacked Will and his Mom’s car (known from here on out as the Momobile) and demanded that he go see this movie with me.  Now, this is a pivotal moment, for it defines the rest of our relationship; I demand, he gives in.  A good arrangement, no?

So, Will and I had our first “date” of sorts, and quickly became best friends.  We were there for each other through other relationships, high school graduations, parental problems, college, and he was there for me when all three of my remaining grandparents passed away.  In 2001, we decided to become roommates, so we got an apartment together in Peachtree City with another friend of mine.  That situation lasted about 3 months before it fell apart, so we transferred into a two bedroom apartment and lived there together for 2 years total.  During this time, some small things shifted in our relationship and Will developed feelings for me that I didn’t reciprocate right away which led to hurt feelings and unnecessary drama between the two of us.  Eventually, it was decided that he would be moving out on his own and our friendship really suffered.  We didn’t really speak for about a year, which was really hard for me because Will was my best friend and I felt really bad about hurting him.

Flash forward to the end of that torturous year and to an (un)fortunate* series of events that left Will fired from his job at the hospital he had been working for, and pulling double duty as a server and doing his first stint at a SB just to make ends meet.  I happened to casually mention this to my Mom who automatically offers Will a job at the lumber company and this is how Will and I started talking again.  (Un)fortunately**, Will didn’t last long at the lumber company but did find his current career path in Medical Pimping (or Nurse Recruiting, whatever) where he “rents” women to facilities by the hour.  After a few months of hanging out with Will again, I just knew in my heart that I couldn’t ever be without him again (plus he grew out that horrible go tee and grew in that awesome, sexy beard***) and so we tentatively started “dating”; which is kind of what we were already doing, minus hand holding and kissing and all that other gross stuff.    And the rest, as they say, is history.  Why did I divulge all this information to you, you ask??  Well, I happened upon a compatibility tool on Yahoo! (yes, I’m bored at work) and decided to see how accurate it was.  Well, check it out for yourself:

Virgo (ME!! 9/22) and Taurus (Will 5/19)

Taurus & Virgo

When Taurus and Virgo come together in a love affair, it’s a union of innate practicality. Both of these Signs employ practicality in their daily lives as the most efficient means to most problems. They can be quite sincere and devoted to one another; as people, both have a great deal of integrity. Virgo likes Taurus’s strength and dedication while Taurus appreciates Virgo’s quick mind.

Due to Virgo’s naturally cautious nature, this relationship can take awhile to develop, (HA! That is an understatement) but once it’s established that both partners are in it for the long haul, it’s like a runaway locomotive, running on its own power and difficult to stop. These two Signs have much in common: They highly value common sense and practicality; they’re both materialistic but work hard for the creature comforts they so enjoy. Taurus is more sensual and indulgent than Virgo is; Virgo tends to be the inhibiting force in the relationship, tending not to get involved in the chaos of life in favor of analyzing all available options. Virgo’s analysis leads to criticism (Me, nag or criticize? Never!),which Taurus can tend to take too seriously. Conversely, Taurus’s stubborn (as hell) nature can get on Virgo’s nerves, causing Virgo to criticize even more! This pair must take care not to take one another too seriously. The good thing is, they’re similar enough that they can learn to be patient with one another, especially Virgo, who loves to indulge Taurus’s penchant for fine treatment and good food.

Taurus is ruled by Venus (Love and Money) and Virgo is ruled by Mercury (Communication). Both of these Planets are close to the Sun, so they’re closely related though they seem very different. Venus is physical; it’s about romance and sensuality, both of which are important to Taurus. Mercury is about communication and it’s androgynous — Virgo will take on the form that it chooses. Virgo is very good at understanding other people and can easily learn to be the romantic and sensual partner that Taurus loves. Both partners are so devoted and romantic, their arguments surely won’t focus on those issues.

Taurus and Virgo are both Earth Signs. Earth Signs are steady and practical, concerned with possessions. Taurus and Virgo together love to surround themselves with beautiful things — an opulent home, gorgeous artwork, classy cars. Their love of luxury and their desire to be financially secure ensure that this couple will work hard who never overspend. (Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! If that were only true)

Taurus is a Fixed Sign and Virgo is a Mutable Sign. Taurus is stubborn and tends to make up their mind for good; more flexible Virgo can help teach Taurus the value in bending the mind a bit — when it’s practical, of course.

What’s the best aspect of the Taurus-Virgo relationship? Their dedication to working toward the same goals. Both partners enjoy luxury and nice things, and Virgo likes helping Taurus achieve their goals. Their common interests and desires make theirs a highly compatible relationship.

Creepy accurate, right? So there you have it, folks – Will and I in a nutshell. Go do one for yourself and leave a comment letting me know if yours was accurate/way off the mark!

 * It’s only unfortunate because he got fired and had to work two jobs, but fortunate because it was the event that put us back into each others lives.

** It’s unfortunate because it didn’t work out, but if he hadn’t gotten fired, then I wouldn’t have been hired and gotten out of doing resturaunt management.

*** As condition of our relationship agreement, he can NEVER under any circumstances shave his beard.  I love the beard and if it goes, I go.

Politics

I am 27 years old and I registered to vote for the first time this year because this is the first election that I have felt it’s important that I vote.  I’m not going to go on and on about who I’m voting for and why, because I personally believe that I don’t have to defend my choice. I’m also not going to ridicule or chastise someone else for their views, I just think it’s really important to know the facts each candidate represents and not get caught up in the marketing of either one.  I really respect the people who are trying to do just that, and after reading this post, I immediately thought about an Against Me! song that I love and wanted to share with you.

So, while you may already know who you’re voting for and feel confident about your choice, I urge you to “Stop! Take some time to think, figure out what’s important to you! You’ve got to make a serious decision!” that could affect life as we know it.  I truly feel in my heart that this is one of the most important elections in history for the several reasons.  The obvious and totally superficial being that either a woman or a black man will end up in the White House.  While I am in support of one candidate over the other and I consider myself an Independent Voter, I don’t necessarily agree with every issue that particular candidate supports/condemns.  So, for the next 50 days or so, I will be thinking hard about what is most important to me and how I would like to see things develop for the future and come November 21st, I will vote with my heart AND my head and I hope you do the same.

New Layout!

Feedback?  You like?? I know it’s cutting off the older pictures that I have “centered”, but I don’t want to change them all if no one likes this layout!  Gimme some feedback, people!

Breakfast, Brunch, or Brinner

Breakfast food.  I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love any and all breakfast foods.  I could LIVE off of breakfast items for every meal of the day and be perfectly happy.  Obviously, I’m not the only one because now you can  have breakfast for every meal of the day.  Breakfast, Brunch and Brinner.  I swear I didn’t make that term up:

Case in point – the brunch I made on Sunday that I am seriously considering having again for dinner tonight:

Home-made french toast on Challah bread with low fat bacon and scrambled eggs with cheese.  It was so delicious that I don’t even mind that syrup ran into my eggs.

Salivating yet??  If you are interested in making the people in your home happy, then you, too can make brinner.  Want my french toast recipe?? It’s incredibly simple:

8-10 slices fresh challah bread, 3 large eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, grate 1tsp cinnamon stick, one whole vanilla bean (not extract).  Mix all ingredients and then coat your bread, cook on med-high until golden brown.  Choice of toppings is only as limited as your imagination.  We went simple on Sunday, but I love making it with bananas and sliced almonds.  If you have a twist or a creative topping idea, let me know!! Share the love, people!

Furday Friday #10 and Funky Photo Friday #2

As promised, here is Furday Friday!! This week we are doing something a little different….we are featuring GUEST DOGGIES!! These are pictures of other furry “babies” in my life that I have taken a while back, but edited today!

First up is Sophie.  She is CJ and Mandy’s dog that they got right before Mandy graduated college and moved in with me for a few months:

The Next “baby” is Murphy.  He is April and James’ Rottie.  These pictures were taken the first time we introduced our “children” and Mia and Guinness’ first trip to the beach:

Mia giving Murphy a ninja kick to the face!! Chuck Norris who??  Being a ninja  runs in the family, I guess.

This next guest is Twinkie.  She is Don’s (my previous boss in Ga) baby.  He has shared custody of her with my Mom.  It’s a really cute arrangement because Twinkie comes to work with Don everyday and on some days, she will follow my Mom out to her car, jump in and run away if Don tries to get her.  She does this about once a week…it’s kinda cute.

And of course a Furday Friday wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t feature AT LEAST one of My babies:

This is my favorite photo of Olivia from BEFORE I got my Nikon.  It was taken on my Kodak Easy Share, but I LOVE the expression on her face.  We had just gotten them a new toy from PetSmart and she was getting pissed off at it and you can actually SEE the frustration on her face.  It’s a classic:

This is the VERY FIRST PICTURE I took when I got my Nikon D40.  I had LITERALLY just taken it out of the box and Olivia decided she wanted to model for Me from INSIDE the camera box:

And in honor of Nik’s Funky Photo Friday, I have a picture of Me, Will, Mandy, and CJ from My brother’s 22nd birthday.  We went to a sushi restaurant in Atlanta called Nakato’s.  It was AWESOME!!

2007

2007

I have no idea why CJ and I both look high in this picture, but I swear weren’t, Mom.  Look at Will – he’s so hot!! I love my man!! >kiss<  Now he has  shaggy hair and I can’t decide which look I like better….oh well.
